LANL Security Permits Abolitionists To Pray for the Demise of LANL
Four prayer-activists from the Trinity Nuclear Abolition crew conducted their monthly vigil on the sidewalk of LANL in front of the main entrance sign for two hours. During that time, two men strayed from the sidewalk into the area in front of the Otowi building, where security personnel interrupted their 10 minute flyer-distribution after only 5.3 minutes. The two were asked to show their ID cards, and to return to the regularly permitted zone in front of the main sign. Their flyers contained the information seen by clicking here. LASO/LANL/ProForce security personnel did not threaten to make any arrests today. The Trinity Nuclear Abolitionists (TNA) prayer-activists continued to pray and distribute literature for the full two hours they wanted--at the corner of Diamond Drive and West Jemez Rd.
TNA had two purposes for being at LANL today. In Washington DC and San Francisco, CA there were "No War-No Warming" actions echoed regionally to call for an end to US Wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and a prevention of war in Iran. The second purpose was to commemorate three LANL nuclear bombs exploded on this date in history, and two from Lawrence Livermore on this date in history. The "Able" shot was detonated in 1951, to experiment on 5,000 US Soldiers, and in 1958 the Socorro and Oberon shots were also detonated at the Nevada Test Site. LLNL arranged for the Rushmore and Wrangell shots in 1958 at the NTS.
Trinity Nuclear Abolitionists consistently call for an end to all nuclear weapons research, development, testing, refurbishing, and production. They are part of the worldwide nuclear abolition movement working for social justice and spiritual integrity.
